United State Medical License Exam
The USMLE is a three step examination that enables medical graduates who have been trained within the United States and internationally to practice medicine within the United States.
It assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.
The Step one assesses the examinees’ understanding and ability to apply important concepts of basic science to the practice of medicine, with special emphasis on principles and mechanisms underlying health, disease and modes of therapy.
The Step two assesses the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science essential for the provision of patient care under supervision, with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention
The third step assesses the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine, with emphasis on patient management in ambulatory settings
The USMLE Preparatory Course
From past research, most international students find it harder to pass the USMLE Step1 exam when they go it on their own. The Kaplan study program is therefore especially designed to provide students with extensive support that will enable not just a passing score but acing the examination.
The study program provides students with comprehensive study notes, 7weeks of live
lectures with top notch lecturers, extensive
Qbank containing thousands of practice
questions with sample cases and support
among peers from all over the world.
So you may ask yourself ‘do I need the prep course?’
The most important factor to consider here is your background and the study methodology you are most comfortable with. Every individual has differing needs and learning styles, and the availability of a preparatory program that provides visual learning, group reading, individual studying, interactive teaching and paced study definitely caters to more than 85% of student types.
To study for the USMLE at any of the Kaplan centres in the US, you must be a student or graduate of a U.S or Canada medical school or a graduate of a medical school that is outside the U.S and Canada, listed in the Wold Directory of Medical Schools as meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements.
If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may take the Step1 and Step 2 in any order and may only take Step 3 after passing the first two.
You are welcome to start the Step1 course this year at any of our centres in New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston or Washington DC.
